Oakland deserves a City Hall that delivers and is accountable.
YES on EE reforms Oakland’s Charter – the contract between City Hall and the people it serves – to create clearer lines of responsibility while strengthening City Council oversight and maintaining strong checks and balances.
Under Oakland’s current hybrid governance system, responsibility is divided, accountability is blurred, and too often the buck stops with no one.
YES on EE would establish a true strong-mayor system. Oakland’s Mayor and City Council would set the direction for the City. As Oakland’s Chief Executive, the Mayor would have
the authority to ensure City Hall follows through and would be ultimately accountable to voters for results – not an unelected City Administrator.

Strengthen Checks and Balances
YES on EE guards against abuse and corruption by creating an Independent Budget and Legislative Analyst, establishing a mayoral veto that six Councilmembers can override, and granting the City Council stronger oversight powers, including hearings and subpoenas.
